As philosopher Michael Wyshogrod reminds us, Judaism is a carnal election. Israel's election is transmitted through the body and to many, this is a scandal. We are mostly misunderstood by the world's religion due to this strange feature of our national existence. How does this embodied focus distinguish the contours of our religious life and in what way might it fundamentally shape our cultural and political identity as a people? Most importantly, we will explore how our understanding of the Jewish body shapes our ethics in profound ways.
