Responding to the model of the mishkan on the table of the hall at Beth Shalom is my starting point. The mishkan (tabernacle tent Exodus 24:15–40:38) is treated in co-relation with the instructions of the book of Leviticus and the Israelite people, represented as twelve tribes, in Numbers 1:1–10:28. Perspectives offered on the mishkan are informed by the time when first versions of the text were possibly written, circa 500 BCE, and which later became the Masoretic (Hebrew) Text of the 7th to 10th century CE. Modern biblical theory (since 1800 CE) also informs the discussion.
