Women of the Wall singing, young Israeli women singing in competitions, women singing in the Knesset, women singing in shul: these may pose a challenge to some people. How do we feel about an understanding of halachah that prohibits women from singing in the presence of men? Progressive Judaism believes that every Jew has the ability, the freedom, and the responsibility to have a personal understanding of halachah in a way that is appropriate to the modern world. The Beth Shalom B’nei Mishnah Class will present and discuss the issue of kol b’ishah ervah.
