Sophia Duckor-Jones

Sophia was born in Wellington, and describes her childhood as creative and free, with parents who encouraged her to tell her love of story telling from a young age. She went on Shnat Haschara with Habonim in 2007 and completed a  BA at Otago and Victoria Universities  before doing a post graduate diploma in journalism. She was the Waikato and Bay of Plenty reporter for Newstalk ZB for two years, before travelling. She has reported on the refugee plight in the New Zealand Herald, and was guest speaker on refugee rights for TalkRadio UK. She spent three months working in a refugee camp in Greece, and thenmoved to Washington, D.C in 2016 to take up a marketing and communications role for World Learning, a major U.S based non profit organisation that focusses on global development and education across the Middle East. Returning to New Zealand in December 2017, she is now  a reporter for Radio New Zealand based in Auckland.
